Beshbaliq

Also known as Beiting, Bishbalik

Beshbaliq, 'five towns', was a city in the north of the Tian Shan, near modern Jimsar in Xinjiang, China. Under the Tang dynasty it was the seat of the Beiting Protectorate, and from the 9th century it served as the summer capital of the Uyghur kingdom of Qocho. It remained an important centre under the Mongols, when it was a base of the Chagatai realm, and its ruins survive.
