Person
Borut
Borut was a Slavic prince of Carantania, in what is now Carinthia and Slovenia, in the mid-8th century. Around 743, threatened by the Avars, he sought help from the Bavarians, who defeated the Avars but made Carantania subject to Bavaria. He sent his son Gorazd and nephew Hotimir as hostages to be raised as Christians, opening the country to missionaries from Salzburg.
