Prince's Stone

Also known as Knežji kamen, Fürstenstein

The Prince's Stone is the base of an ancient Roman column that stood at Karnburg in Carinthia, where the princes of Carantania and later the dukes of Carinthia were installed. In the ceremony a free peasant seated on the stone questioned the new ruler in Slovene before handing over the land. The rite was last held in 1414, and the stone is now kept in Klagenfurt.
