Catullus

c. 84–c. 54 BCE · 1st century BCE · Also known as Gaius Valerius Catullus

Gaius Valerius Catullus was a Roman poet from Verona, active in the late Republic. His surviving collection of 116 poems includes love poems to a woman he called Lesbia, invective against public figures and learned poems modelled on Alexandrian Greek verse. He was the leading figure of the 'new poets' and strongly influenced later Latin lyric and elegy.
