Cicero

106–43 BCE · 1st century BCE · Also known as Marcus Tullius Cicero

Cicero (Marcus Tullius Cicero) was a Roman statesman, lawyer, orator and philosopher, the greatest master of Latin prose. As consul in 63 BCE he suppressed the conspiracy of Catiline, and he later opposed Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. His speeches, letters and philosophical works, such as the Tusculan Disputations, are a principal source for the late Roman Republic; he was killed on Antony's orders in 43 BCE.
