Caucasus campaign

1914–1918 · 20th century · Part of the First World War

The Caucasus campaign was the First World War theatre in which the Ottoman Empire fought Russia, and later Armenia, Azerbaijan and other states, in the Caucasus and eastern Anatolia from 1914 to 1918. After the Ottoman disaster at Sarikamish (1914–1915), Russia advanced as far as Erzurum and Trabzon; after the Russian Revolution the Ottomans counter-attacked into Transcaucasia, where Armenian forces checked them at Sardarabad in 1918.
