Chigils

The Chigils were a Turkic tribe of Central Asia, recorded by Muslim geographers from the 10th century around Lake Issyk-Kul and the upper Chu valley. Closely linked to the Karluk confederation, they were one of the main tribal groups behind the Kara-Khanid Khanate and supplied much of its army. Mahmud al-Kashgari described their dialect in his 11th-century dictionary of the Turkic languages.
