Confederation of Cologne

1367 · 14th century

The Confederation of Cologne was an alliance formed in Cologne in November 1367 by Hanseatic and Dutch towns against Valdemar IV of Denmark, joined by Holstein, Mecklenburg and Swedish nobles. Its fleets ravaged the Danish and Norwegian coasts and took Copenhagen in 1368. The war ended with the Treaty of Stralsund of 1370, the high point of Hanseatic power in the Baltic.
