Constantine Phaulkon

1647–1688 · 17th century

Constantine Phaulkon was a Greek adventurer from Cephalonia who came to Ayutthaya with the English East India Company and became the chief minister of King Narai in the 1680s. He promoted close ties with France, which sent embassies and troops, arousing the hostility of Siamese nobles. As Narai lay dying in 1688 he was arrested and executed by Phetracha.
