Cortes of Aragon

Also known as Corts of Aragon

The Cortes of Aragon were the parliament of the Kingdom of Aragon, made up of four estates: the clergy, the great nobles, the knights and lesser nobles, and the towns. Kings had to summon them to obtain taxes and to make or change laws, and they defended the kingdom's fueros. They met from the thirteenth century until their abolition by the Nueva Planta decrees of 1707.
