Crusades
The Crusades were a series of religious wars launched by Latin Christians from the late eleventh century, chiefly to capture and hold Jerusalem and the Holy Land. The First Crusade took advantage of the fragmentation of the Seljuk Empire after the death of Malik Shah. The crusades shaped relations between Europe and the Islamic world for centuries.
