Dirham
The dirham was the silver coin of the Islamic world. Large quantities of Abbasid and other dirhams flowed northwards along trade routes controlled by the Khazar Khaganate, reaching the Volga region, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. The coins reflect the Khazars' role as intermediaries in trade between the Islamic world and northern Eurasia.
