Dyle

Also known as Dijle

The Dyle (Dijle in Dutch) is a river in central Belgium, rising in Walloon Brabant and flowing north through Leuven and Mechelen to join the Nete and form the Rupel. In 891 Arnulf of Carinthia destroyed a Viking army on its banks near Leuven. In the Middle Ages the counts of Louvain, later dukes of Brabant, built their power along the river.
