Ecueracapa

d. 1793 · 18th century

Ecueracapa was a Comanche chief who emerged as the leading spokesman of the western Comanche in the 1780s. In 1786 he negotiated a peace with Juan Bautista de Anza, governor of Spanish New Mexico, which ended decades of raiding there and allied the Comanche with Spain against the Apache. The peace lasted for decades, and Ecueracapa died in 1793 fighting the Pawnee.
