Kansas
Kansas is a state of the central United States, lying on the Great Plains between Missouri and Colorado. Its grasslands were hunting grounds of the Kansa, Osage, Pawnee, Comanche and others. Opened to settlement in 1854, it became the scene of violent clashes between pro- and anti-slavery settlers known as Bleeding Kansas, before joining the Union as a free state in 1861.
