Eder (river)

The Eder is a river of Germany, about 177 km long, rising in the Rothaar mountains of North Rhine-Westphalia and flowing east through Hesse past Waldeck to join the Fulda near Kassel. Its upper hills were Chattian land in Roman times, and the castle of Waldeck above it gave its name to the counts and princes of Waldeck. The Edersee dam on the river was breached in the Dambusters raid of 1943.
