Eteocretans

The Eteocretans, 'true Cretans', were descendants of Crete's pre-Greek population who lived in the east of the island in historical times. Their centre was Praisos, and they wrote inscriptions in the Greek alphabet in a still-undeciphered language, Eteocretan, down to the 3rd century BCE. Homer's Odyssey already names them among the island's peoples.
