Flag of Denmark

Also known as Dannebrog

The flag of Denmark, the Dannebrog, a white Scandinavian cross on a red field, is often said to be the oldest national flag in continuous use. Legend, first written down in the 16th century, says it fell from heaven during the Battle of Lindanise in Estonia in 1219, but the red-and-white cross is first securely attested as a Danish royal emblem in the 14th century. Its design inspired the crosses of the other Nordic flags.
