c. 1510–1554 · 16th century

Francisco Hernández Girón was a Spanish conquistador who in November 1553 led the last major rebellion of the encomenderos in Peru, provoked by royal measures to abolish the forced personal service of indigenous people. Starting at Cusco, his forces defeated a royal army at Chuquinga in 1554 but were routed at Pucará later that year. He was captured and executed in Lima in December 1554.
