Galba

3 BCE–69 CE · 1st century · Also known as Servius Sulpicius Galba

Galba was a Roman senator who, as governor of Hispania Tarraconensis, was proclaimed emperor by his troops in 68 CE during the revolt against Nero. He became emperor after Nero's suicide, the first of the Year of the Four Emperors. His severity and refusal to pay the Praetorian Guard cost him support, and he was murdered in Rome in January 69.
