Gediz River
The Gediz, the ancient Hermus, is a river of western Anatolia in Turkey that flows about 400 kilometres from the highlands near Kütahya to the Aegean north of İzmir. Its fertile plain was the heartland of the Kingdom of Lydia, with Sardis on its tributary the Pactolus, and later of the Saruhanid beylik around Manisa.
