Hecate

Also known as Hekate

Hecate was a Greek goddess associated with crossroads, entrances, night, magic and the moon, often shown with torches or in triple form. She was widely worshipped, and Byzantium honoured her as a protector of the city. A later legend held that she revealed a Macedonian night attack on Byzantium in 340 BCE, explaining the crescent on the city's coins.
