Hippos
Hippos was a Hellenistic and Roman city of the Decapolis on a flat-topped hill east of the Sea of Galilee, in the modern Golan region of Israel. Founded in the 2nd century BCE, it prospered as a Greek-speaking city with temples, a forum and, later, several churches. It was destroyed by the earthquake of 749 and never rebuilt; excavations have uncovered much of its plan.
