Hosea

8th century BCE · 8th century BCE

Hosea was a Hebrew prophet in the northern Kingdom of Israel in the 8th century BCE, during its last decades before the Assyrian conquest. The biblical Book of Hosea uses his marriage to an unfaithful wife as an image of Israel's unfaithfulness to its God, condemning the worship of Baal and alliances with Assyria and Egypt. It is the first of the twelve Minor Prophets.
