Ahab

9th century BCE · 9th century BCE · Also known as Ahab of Israel

Ahab was king of Israel in the 9th century BCE, the son of Omri, reigning from Samaria roughly between 871 and 852 BCE. He married the Phoenician princess Jezebel, and the Hebrew Bible condemns him for promoting the worship of Baal. Assyrian records show him fielding 2,000 chariots against Shalmaneser III at the Battle of Qarqar in 853 BCE, and the Mesha Stele records that Moab was subject to his dynasty.
