Idomeneus

Idomeneus is a Cretan king in Greek mythology, grandson of Minos and ruler of Knossos, who led eighty ships of Cretans to the Trojan War in Homer's Iliad. One of the leading Greek warriors, he was later said to have vowed to sacrifice the first living thing he met on his return home, which proved to be his son. The story inspired Mozart's opera Idomeneo (1781).
