Indonesian National Party

1927 · 20th century · Also known as PNI, Partai Nasional Indonesia, Indonesian Nationalist Party

The Indonesian National Party (PNI) was founded by Sukarno and others in Bandung on 4 July 1927 to win independence through mass non-cooperation with the Dutch. The colonial government arrested Sukarno in 1929, and the party dissolved itself in 1931. A new PNI founded after independence became one of the four largest parties in the 1955 elections.
