Isa ibn Ali Al Khalifa

1848–1932 · 20th century

Isa ibn Ali Al Khalifa was ruler of Bahrain from 1869, when the British installed him after a period of civil war, until 1923. His reign saw Bahrain bound to Britain by the exclusive agreements of 1880 and 1892. In 1923 the British, pressing for administrative reform, forced him to hand power to his son Hamad, though he kept the title until his death.
