Ishvarasena

3rd century · 3rd century

Ishvarasena was an Abhira king who founded a kingdom around Nashik in western India in the 3rd century CE, as the Satavahana dynasty weakened. He is known mainly from a Prakrit inscription in the Buddhist caves at Nashik, dated to the ninth year of his reign, and from coins. The era beginning in 248 or 249 CE, later called the Kalachuri-Chedi era, may date from his accession.
