Ja'alin
The Ja'alin are an Arab tribe of the Nile valley in northern Sudan, centred on the region of Shendi, who claim descent from al-Abbas, the uncle of the Prophet. Many became merchants trading across Sudan in the 19th century. In 1822 their chief, Mek Nimr of Shendi, killed Ismail Kamil Pasha, son of Muhammad Ali of Egypt, provoking savage reprisals by the Turco-Egyptian army.
