Jand
Jand was a medieval town on the lower Syr Darya, in present-day Kazakhstan, on the frontier between the Islamic lands of Central Asia and the steppe. In the tenth and eleventh centuries it was a centre of the Oghuz Turks, and the Seljuk clan settled near it and adopted Islam there. Later part of the Khwarazmian realm, it was destroyed by the Mongols in 1220.
