Person
Januarius
Januarius (San Gennaro) was a bishop of Benevento martyred around 305, probably in the persecution of Diocletian. He is the patron saint of Naples, where a vial of what is believed to be his dried blood is kept in the cathedral. Its reported liquefaction, normally three times a year, has been a central event of Neapolitan devotion since at least the fourteenth century.
