Kamrup
Kamrup is the historical region of western Assam around Guwahati, in the lower Brahmaputra valley of north-east India. It takes its name from the ancient kingdom of Kamarupa and in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries was contested between the Koch kingdoms, the Mughal Empire and the Ahom kingdom, which secured it with the recovery of Guwahati in 1682. The name survives in the Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts.
