Kenneth MacAlpin

d. 858 · 9th century · Also known as Kenneth I of Scotland, Cináed mac Ailpín

Kenneth MacAlpin was a king of Gaelic origin who became ruler of the Picts around 843. Later tradition made him the founder of the Kingdom of Scotland, uniting the Picts with the Gaels of Dál Riata, although the merger into the kingdom of Alba took several more generations. His descendants ruled Scotland for over two centuries.
