Kita, Mali
Kita is a town in the Kayes Region of western Mali, at the foot of the Kita massif and on the Dakar–Niger Railway. French troops under Gustave Borgnis-Desbordes built a fort there in 1881, the first major post in their advance from the Senegal River to the Niger. It is a centre of groundnut and cotton farming and of an annual Catholic pilgrimage.
