Kulango

Also known as Kulango people

The Kulango are a Gur-speaking people of north-eastern Ivory Coast and western Ghana, living around Bouna and Bondoukou. They are farmers whose villages were traditionally led by earth-priests responsible for the land and its shrines. From about 1600 many Kulango came under the rule of the kingdom of Buna, whose dynasty was linked to Dagbon, while others lived within the kingdom of Gyaman.
