Legio VII Gemina

68 CE · 1st century

Legio VII Gemina was a Roman legion raised in Hispania by Galba in 68 CE. From the reign of Vespasian it was stationed in north-western Spain to guard the region and its gold mines, and its camp grew into the city of León, whose name derives from 'legio'. It is attested there into the late Roman period.
