Lu Xiufu

1236–1279 · 13th century

Lu Xiufu (1236–1279) was a Chinese official of the Southern Song dynasty and one of its last loyalist leaders. After the Mongols took the capital Lin'an in 1276, he and the general Zhang Shijie led the remnant court in flight along the southern coast. When the Song fleet was destroyed at the Battle of Yamen in 1279, he leapt into the sea carrying the boy emperor Zhao Bing, ending the dynasty.
