Maeotians

Also known as Maeotae

The Maeotians were ancient peoples living along the eastern shore of the Sea of Azov, which the Greeks called Lake Maeotis, and in the lower Kuban valley. Farmers and fishermen, they traded with the Greek cities of the Bosporus, and in the 4th century BCE the Spartocid kings brought many of them under their rule. They were later absorbed among the Sarmatians.
