Margaret Maultasch

1318–1369 · 14th century · Also known as Margaret, Countess of Tyrol

Margaret Maultasch was Countess of Tyrol from 1335 to 1363, the last of the Meinhardiner line. She expelled her first husband, John Henry of Luxembourg, and married Louis of Bavaria without an annulment, causing a European scandal. After the death of her only son she handed Tyrol to the Habsburgs in 1363, who held it until 1918.
