Meilyr Brydydd

fl. 1100–1137 · 12th century

Meilyr Brydydd was a Welsh court poet, the earliest of the Poets of the Princes whose work survives. He served Gruffudd ap Cynan, king of Gwynedd, and wrote an elegy on his death in 1137, as well as a deathbed poem asking to be buried on Bardsey Island. His son Gwalchmai and grandsons continued the family's tradition of court poetry.
