Military-technological disparity
Military technological disparity is the recurring pattern in which an empire is weakened or destroyed by opponents with superior weapons. Examples include the Sokoto Caliphate facing British Maxim guns, the Ashanti and Benin empires confronting European firearms, and the Wadai Empire against French colonial forces. Such gaps often decided colonial conquests regardless of the defenders' numbers or organisation.
