Munich Secession

1892 · 19th century

The Munich Secession was an association of artists founded in 1892 by painters, among them Franz von Stuck, who broke away from the official Munich Artists' Association in protest at its conservative exhibitions. The first of the secessions in the German-speaking world, it inspired those of Vienna and Berlin and helped make Munich a leading centre of modern art around 1900.
