Mureș (river)
The Mureș, Maros in Hungarian, is a river of Romania and Hungary about 760 kilometres long. It rises in the Eastern Carpathians, flows west across Transylvania past Târgu Mureș, Alba Iulia and Arad, and joins the Tisza at Szeged. Ancient writers called it the Maris or Marisus, and Herodotus placed the Agathyrsi along its course.
