Nagao clan

The Nagao clan was a Japanese warrior family that served as deputies (shugodai) of the Uesugi governors in Echigo and the Kantō region. In the early 16th century Nagao Tamekage overpowered his Uesugi lords in Echigo, and his son Nagao Kagetora took over the province. Adopted by Uesugi Norimasa in 1561, Kagetora took the Uesugi name and became famous as Uesugi Kenshin.
