Nùng people
The Nùng are a Tai-speaking people of north-eastern Vietnam, especially the border provinces of Cao Bằng and Lạng Sơn, closely related to the Tày and to the Zhuang of China. In the 11th century the Nùng chief Nùng Trí Cao rebelled against both Đại Việt and Song China. In 1947 the French recognised a Nùng autonomous territory around Móng Cái, and many Nùng moved south after 1954.
