Oktoberfest

1810 · 19th century

Oktoberfest is the annual folk festival held on the Theresienwiese in Munich, Bavaria. It began with a horse race on 17 October 1810 celebrating the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen, and became a yearly event. Now held from late September into early October, it is the largest festival of its kind in the world, known for its beer tents and parades.
