Old Nubian

Old Nubian is the medieval written form of the Nubian language, used in the Christian kingdoms of the middle Nile from about the 8th to the 15th century. Written in an adapted Coptic alphabet, it survives in church texts, letters, legal documents and graffiti, many found at Qasr Ibrim. It was used alongside Greek and Coptic in Makuria and its successor Dotawo.
