Onglos
The Onglos was the area near the Danube delta, probably in southern Bessarabia or northern Dobruja, where the Bulgars of Asparuh settled in the 670s. Protected by rivers and marshes, it served as their base for crossing the Danube. After defeating the Byzantine army of Constantine IV there in 680, the Bulgars moved south into Moesia and founded the First Bulgarian Empire.
