Persis
Persis is the Greek name for the region of Pars, modern Fars, in south-western Iran, the homeland of the Persians. Under the Parthian Empire it was ruled by local kings. Its ruler Ardashir exploited Parthian weakness to defeat the last Parthian king, Artabanus IV, in 224 CE, founding the Sasanian Empire.
